On the Friday the 11 of November, we started to do our cherry blossom art with these steps and material.

You will need:
  • A piece of A3 paper
  • Water
  • Newspaper
  • Black paint
  • Blue and green water paint (Optional)

Equipment:
  • A straw
  • A paint brush
  • Napkins
  • Pipette or dropper
  • A container

                                   Method
  1. First, spread newspaper over a table.

  1. Fill up a container with water.

  1. Grab a piece of A3 paper then put it on top of the newspaper.

  1. Get a tray then put the water colours inside it.

  1. Pick up your brush then paint the background for your tree on the piece of paper. Blue for the sky and green for the grass, then let it dry.

  1. Before you create a tree on your piece of paper, get a scrap piece and practice making a tree by using a pipette to place little plops, then use the straw to blow the wet paint and create your desired tree style.

  1. Once you have finished practising then you can move on to the real deal. Place one plop of black paint with the pipette onto your piece of paper then start creating your tree that you made on the scrap piece of paper, or create another design.

  8. Wait for your tree to dry. While you're waiting, you could set up colours that you want to use for your blossoms.

9. Once your tree is dry, dip one of your fingers into the paint then start adding dots. You can use any colour for the blossoms.

10. Be creative and have fun!

An Earthquake Occurs

                          An Earthquake Occurs

After the earthquake that hit Hanmer Springs which was felt in the south and north islands people were left in shock. The first and most horrific earthquake was a 7.5 magnitude on the Richter scale. A lot of people were confused because of how long the earthquake went on but the first one was followed by two mini ones.

Kaikoura and Wellington were the main places affected. A lot of tragic accidents have happened like two people have died in Kaikoura and Mt Lyford and Kaikoura has been flooded because a tsunami. A small amount of people a being flown out by a helicopter. Kaikouras drinking water has been cut off as well so they’re running low but luckily shipments are coming in to give them supplies to survive.

The tsunami that hit Kaikoura was caused by the 7.5 earthquake that hit on Monday 14 November. Here are a few tips if there is a tsunami coming.

  1. If you know there is a tsunami coming, don’t wait for sirens or anything like that.
  2. If you’re near the shore, plan an escape route.
  3. Never stay to watch a tsunami come in.
  4. Know the signs of a tsunami like the the shore being empty.
  5. Go straight to higher ground or inland, away from all the water.

I hope those four tips helped. Stay safe and be aware.
