Riiana's Learning Goals Reflection

These are my goals from term one. I've achieved all except for one, writing. I'm still proud of myself. The reason I didn't achieve it is because I hardly use a plan. 

A Book Report On...

In Room 10 we've been working on writing a report. Our first one was about our text we read, a book report. For example, my group read a book called Te Tiriti O Waitangi so we did a report based on that.

Bugzy

I remember the day I got my most precious darling, Bugzy. It had shocked me a lot that day. I wasn't expecting to get a kitten at all, especially because Mum had told me we weren't allowed one.

At some point during February of this year Frank and I had to come along with Mum to a birthday party. It was being held at the Panmure Pools and it didn't start until somewhere in the afternoon. Frank and I reluctantly started packing our swimming gear once it was close to the time we had to leave the house. We were taking years to gather our things. It wasn't even that difficult. The whole time I was complaining about being forced to go but, it was in my mind. Since Mum realised we were taking so long, she decided to heat up the car and that got us moving quicker. Of course, I beat him at getting organised. We all hopped in the car and drove off, heading for the Panmure Pools.

Once we arrived, we got our wristbands to allow entry and to go on the slide. We strolled through the gates, leading to the outside pools. Mum was trying to find where her friend was at while Frank and I were just following her. The outside area isn't that big so it didn't take very long to find them. We could see her friend and her family were sitting near this little wooden picnic table in the front of the entrance to the slide. They had a barbecue going and some drinks, along with the cake and some snacks. Frank and I decided to have a race to see who got changed the fastest. We both speed walked all the way back to the gate we had come through, and then made a turn to the right and it was on. The girls changing room was closer so of course I was ahead. It was very empty and you could hear your footsteps slap against the cold, solid floor. I could feel a draft from time to time as well. I made a run for one of the stalls to get changed, not expecting to see a woman standing there doing whatever. That startled me a lot. I managed to get in one, lock it and place the bag on the door handle without causing too much noise. After struggling to take my jumper off, I chucked my shoes in the bag where the towel and my togs, which are now on me, were. I unlocked the door and darted out of a different entrance, looking around to try and find Frank. I couldn't see him so I continued on. I made it to the table with all the people, with Frank being in second place. To start the day off properly, Frank and I both headed for the huge giant blue slide which you wouldn't be able to miss.

A couple hours has passed by then and I was in the outside pool hanging out with Shakaia. That's when I noticed my mum holding a little furry buddy. It was as black as the night but eyes shiny gold, not able to miss. She walked towards me with the kitty and said with a straight face, "This is your cat. You better take care of it." Or something like that. Shakaia then announced that she had to go now so she left the pool and trotted off. I swam to the nearest wall, hopped onto it and then headed towards Mum. I was more than excited to be able to hug the cat and keep one for myself! I dried myself with my towel I had brought and then asked if I could hold the cat. He was in a box and was being fed some of the snacks there were. I don't remember the exact things he ate but I do remember that he was eating.

More hours have passed and I was in the car with the cat sitting in a small, cardboard box, on my lap. We went a few places before we actually went home. We went to Countdown and people were amazed at how a tiny kitty was sitting at the front of the car, blocking the view. Next we went to Carl's Jr. While Mum was inside a family walked by the car and Bugzy was still in the same position, in the same spot as he was when we went to Countdown. They gave a stare and a smile at the kitty. We finally got back home and I decided to hang out with my kitty.  I got the honor of naming him so I named him Bugzy. Nowadays he's very energetic and playful.

Moving Out?

A certain memory I love to think about from time to time is when I got to sleep in a separate room from my brother. It started off with a casual conversation with my mother a few years back. She was asking me if I thought I was tired of sharing a room with someone. I told her I was fed up so that's when she decided to give me the option. I was extremely excited. Frank sure wasn't ready to let me leave though. He kept trying to reason with Mum but she kept telling him that it was my decision.
After that day had passed, Mum started pulling things out of my now old but back then new room. Of course, I had to clean up the mess from under my bed and then pack up the things which I wanted to bring along. "That took forever!" My kid self thought. Mum had spent a lot of time on taking out one of the items. Once she had finished taking everything out, she then had to move all of my belongings and furniture in.
After that I hung out in my room for a little bit and then went back to the lounge.

Teamwork Makes It Work

For writing we had to choose two other people beside our self to work with to create a poem about ANZAC Day. I was working with Dominic and Brazie. We had a few disagreements and arguments but I still had fun creating this and I bet the other two did too! 

ANZAC Day Soon

As you all know ANZAC Day is coming up soon and ANZAC is our new inquiry and writing topic for this week. We had to write a cinquain poem about ANZAC. A cinquain poem has five lines, the first one is the title, the second has two words describing the title, the third line has three doing words, the fourth describes your expression and the fifth has one word which would be a synonym for the title. This activity was really fun and easy to complete.

Bitten By Common Annoying Pests

Last week on Monday the 13th we had to write an explanation about what happens before and after we're bitten by a pests. You got to choose which pest to write about, you could even have more than one. I chose to write about fleas and mosquitoes. Friday was supposed to be the last day but our teacher is so nice, she gave us an extra day! I don't like writing explanations but hey, at least I got this finished! 

You’ll probably be minding your own business, wandering around and then you’ll hear buzzing right next to your ear and think nothing of it. A few minutes later you’ll see a red bump and feel itchy or you’ll just be scratching at your head. There are so many insects waiting for you and you don’t know when they’re going to strike! I’ve been struck by fleas many times because of my cute, adorable kitten. After you’ve been bitten, you’ll be scratching at a red lump in the hope of it going away but nope! More will appear after the first one, well, that’s what happens to me! If you try to resist then it will get noticeable and will be the only thing you’ll think about. Scratching might not be the best idea in the world though. Some itchy bites start bleeding if you scratch them too many times and some might become infected and swell up. Mosquitoes like to live in tall grass and bushes near our homes waiting for us. They’d also live near places with water to help them live. Fleas like to live in our homes, on animals and even us! If you have a pet or pets, that will make it easier for the fleas to get to you. Mosquitoes are just annoying. You can slap and spray them to get rid of them. For a flea, you can pop its head, flea bomb the house or clean your pets. Thirdly, lice start sucking a small amount of blood from you, less than mosquitoes. If you want to know if you have lice or you feel like you have them then, clean your hair with nit shampoo and comb your hair. To know if you have lice is the itchiness, them biting us causes an allergic reaction. Now, you might not feel itchy right away but later on you’ll start scratching your head, ears and even neck! If a mosquito bites you, you have a chance to get the zika virus. Sometimes you’ll start showing symptoms and sometimes you won’t. You can treat this but not get rid of it.

You have been warned. Use these tips to see if you have any pests lying around! Remember, they’ll be hiding waiting to get to you, your house or pet. It’s not always that easy to make pests “disappear,” so make sure you know what you’re doing and how you’re doing it.

Ever since I've started watching anime and heard that anime started from Japan, I've always wanted to go! I've wanted to visit Japan for awhile for that and so I could visit a cat cafe and read manga while I'm in the place I've always wanted to be which is Japan obviously!

I wonder what it's like to be outside sitting on a bench reading any book in general, surrounded by cherry blossom trees and the flowers falling off while the wind is blowing. If you imagine it, it's quite relaxing. I hope I'll visit Japan in the future.

An Earthquake Occurs

                          An Earthquake Occurs

After the earthquake that hit Hanmer Springs which was felt in the south and north islands people were left in shock. The first and most horrific earthquake was a 7.5 magnitude on the Richter scale. A lot of people were confused because of how long the earthquake went on but the first one was followed by two mini ones.

Kaikoura and Wellington were the main places affected. A lot of tragic accidents have happened like two people have died in Kaikoura and Mt Lyford and Kaikoura has been flooded because a tsunami. A small amount of people a being flown out by a helicopter. Kaikouras drinking water has been cut off as well so they’re running low but luckily shipments are coming in to give them supplies to survive.

The tsunami that hit Kaikoura was caused by the 7.5 earthquake that hit on Monday 14 November. Here are a few tips if there is a tsunami coming.

1. If you know there is a tsunami coming, don’t wait for sirens or anything like that.
2. If you’re near the shore, plan an escape route.
3. Never stay to watch a tsunami come in.
4. Know the signs of a tsunami like the the shore being empty.
5. Go straight to higher ground or inland, away from all the water.

I hope those four tips helped. Stay safe and be aware.

Beautiful Botanic Gardens

              Beautiful Auckland Botanic Gardens

On Thursday the 13th of October which was a beautiful sunny day, we went to the Auckland Botanic Gardens. Everyone except Mrs Vickers went on a bus. We were staying there for two hours. People were chatting about what flowers they were going to see and what they were going to smell,feel and hear.

Once we arrived each classroom was off, ready to explore and learn all about the flowers they could find. We saw a sculpture of a lady getting into a fighting position, the branches moving in the air and a fountain called spiral. We were all amazed at how beautiful the fountain looked. Then we saw the edible garden which had nothing inside yet, a few plants and a couple common flowers. We were heading to the native section and saw a few dog owners. One had a cute and scary puppy.

We were strolling through the native section and I was just staring at plants and signs blankly while following everyone else. I wasn’t bored I was just amazed at the plants and especially the web. It looked like a spider created it but it was too thick to look like a spiders web.

We took an hour in the native section then reached the blossom area near a huge lake and the rose garden. I was shocked at how amazing the blossom trees looked when they were next to each other. For some reason it reminded me of a game called yandere simulator.

When we visited the rose garden I was on shock because there were so many beautiful flowers. My favourite was the chestnut rose because it was so big and it had a nice shade of pink. Me and a few other people had fun observing the flowers. The next place we went was where the magnolias and camellias were.

There were so many beautiful flowers and plants especially the magnolias. When ever I heard the sound of the water rushing I felt calm and relaxed. After we left the magnolia area we went to the kids garden and sketched. I drew a girl wearing an eye patch. Then we went back to the bus.

I had an awesome and tiring day at the botanical gardens.
