Milkshakes [Food Tech - June 28]

My favourite lesson by far...

We made milkshakes!!!
It was fairly easy <( ̄︶ ̄)>
IN THE MAKING
Leanah and I were given three little bowls to add a scoop of French vanilla ice cream into each.
The first bowl, we had tipped in blue and red food colouring to make the scoop purple
The second one we had mixed blue and yellow food colouring to make it green
The final scoop ended up being plain as we were running out of time (surprisingly enough)

〓END
A lot of mixing later and the ice cream had pretty much turned into mush. Leanah (the most awesome decorater in cooking ever) had poured our shakes! From the bottom, green, plain and then purple
-----
Ughh if I had a photo of the shakes themselves then I would put it :(

Significance of Sleep [June 4th Assessment]

Why should I care about all this though?
(Hopefully) as you know, our well-being all depends on how well our four pillars are supported. The four pillars being - social / taha whanau , mental/emotional / taha hinengaro , spiritual / taha wairua & physical / taha tinana.

Let's use 'sleep' to demonstrate how these pillars work, shall we?

The pillar that a lot of people first think of - physical. This aspect refers to our body, our appearance. A healthy amount of sleep makes sure that your skin ends up staying moisturised. In turn your skin will heal itself nicely when needed. If you worry about how your skin appears sleep does reduce those eye bags. Unfortunately too many late nights results in permanent eyebags. Some cases of acne are caused by a lack of sleep, so if you're seeing an unusual amount of acne check your sleeping pattern. Enough sleep will reduce any risks of heart-related conditions also.

Second pillar to look at is social. Social is all about your relationships with other people. As it is confirmed that sleep is a huge factor in how your mood is, you must know that your relationships are dependent on your feelings. Imagine, every night you've been getting 8 hours of sleep. Of course you're going to wake up refreshed and greet the day with an open mindset! When it's time for you to interact with others it will be easier to savour that fresh feeling and start talking to people in a way that will end up making you both pleased.

The third pillar is mental/emotional. This refers to your thoughts and feelings. As I have mentioned just previously, sleep brightens your mood which will allow you to view the world (and yourself) through a clear state of mind. That makes things easier to judge. It also enhances your critical thinking skills and the pace at which you come up with ideas + it opens up your creativity. With enough sleep under your belt you may find that you are able to remember much more than before.

Lastly, the spiritual pillar. This pillar looks at the meanings and purposes you hold in your life. The spiritual body thrives on sleep. Sleep brings you closer to yourself. It leaves you alone to collect thoughts you have picked up during the day. This part of the day may be the only time you have to reflect back and think about how you can improve or what you want to aim for the next day. Many use sleep as a coping mechanism, it's a comforting time for them.

You should start caring about the amount of sleep you gain because of how fundamental it is to your well-being. Without a good sleeping pattern you will find all four of your pillars start to crumble until it completely falls apart. That means that you will end up with a very... lacking life.

Please remember that getting one night of good rest will not fully help your well-being. Sleep is something that needs to be regulated. If you're trying to overcome unhealthy sleep patterns, just know that it will take a few weeks before you can see a huge change.

Number [Study Notes]

Multiples - The result of one number being multipled by another

E.g. 2 times table // 2 x 4 = 8 // 2 x 6 = 12 // 2 x 8 = 16

Factors - A smaller whole number that can be multipled by another whole number.

Prime Number - A number that can only be divided by itself and 1

*1 does not count as a prime or composite number

E.g. 2, 3, 5, 7, 11

HCF - Finding the highest number a part of both the times tables (can be said as Greatest Common Factor)

E.g. HCF of 12 and 8 = 4

LCM - Two different multiplication sets that have the same lowest multiple

E.g. LCM of 8 and 12 = 24

-----

Order of operation

B rackets - (8+3)^2 / 11 x 3 + 4 - 1

E xponents - (8+3)^2 / 11 x 3 + 4 - 1

D ivision - (8+3)^2 / 11 x 3 + 4 - 1

ultiplication - (8+3)^2 / 11 x 3 + 4 - 1

A ddition - (8+3)^2 / 11 x 3 + 4 - 1

S ubtraction - (8+3)^2 / 11 x 3 + 4 - 1

----

Standard Form

A way of writing down large numbers easily

E.g. 39,000 = 39 x 10^3

----

'Percentage of...' means to multiply

E.g. 30% of 25 / 30 percent of 25 = 30% x 25

Divide % by 100

30/100 = 0.3

Multiply decimal by equation number

0.3 x 25

Waitangi Day

The Treaty of Waitangi is an event that happened 181 years ago between British Representatives and Maori. Every February 6 New Zealand celebrates this event as a national public holiday.

On the Bay of Islands in 1840, over 500 Māori chiefs and the British Representatives had come together to sign what is now known to be New Zealand's founding document.

Being a public holiday, people have their opinions on it. Some see this holiday as a great day to remember the past and to go out and join together with the community. Festivals and showcases are held to commemorate.

Others, however, see this holiday as shameful. They view the remembrance of the many loses New Zealand suffered an embarrassment, some going as far as asking for the holiday to be revoked.

I don't have too much of an opinion on whether the holiday should be taken out or not. All I can say is that I understand why people would prefer not to remember such triggering times and why others are happy for the holiday being around.
