Be Sustainable With Energy

On Wednesday we had a talk with Ester from Vector, the electric company. (If the name 'Vector' rings any bells, you're probably thinking about Vector from Despicable Me.)

We went over all the current ways electricity is being made and how each of them work and affect the environment.

It wasn't just all talk though, Ester had two small activities planned. The first one was sort of like a competition between three people. They had to spin a blade as fast as they could to light up a light bulb. This activity was demonstrating how wind powers electricity.

The second activity was about showing us how solar panels worked. One person held a helicopter with a small solar panel inside and another person held a lamp above the helicopter. The propellers had started to spin, but when its light source had gone it only lasted nine seconds before stopping.

I enjoyed that talk.
